SADCR Newsletter, November 2018

    Vol. 8, Issue 11 - November 2018
        Holiday Season
        • By Siwan Sinjar

The holiday season is upon us, with Thanksgiving haven been and gone, we'll now be going into December with all of its different holidays. The inmates of San Andreas Correctional Facility's Department A were given a second serving of the prepared Thanksgiving food, as there was still some leftover. Much akin to how to pilgrims and native Americans were able to get together and be peaceful during Thanksgiving, and so were the inmate population in Department A and the correctional staff on shift.

With Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa just around the corner, it is important to remember your friends and family. Some of you reading this right now will have a friend or family member in SACF, either as an inmate serving time or working as a correctional officer. Remember to spend time with the people you love and enjoy the Holidays together. At SACF, are keeping the visitation hours up for a few more hours in the evening, so those of you working late nights can still visit your friends and family incarcerated. The Department wishes everyone Happy Holidays.
          • Academy #90
The Academy was opened for the 90th time. A total of ten applicants made it through to be accepted as Cadets of the Department. Of those ten, nine made it to the service training and were given their exam, which determines their future in the department. Of those nine, six have made it to be accepted into the Department, and they will be inducted on December 2nd. The Department congratulates all six of them.
            • November 1
An officer was assaulted in Housing Unit 1, Department A, over a simple housing error. The officer managed to subdue the attacking inmate following a prolonged altercation.

              November 9
An inmate was assaulted by two Southern Hispanic inmates in the day-room of Housing Unit 1, Building A. Refusing to comply with verbal instructions, both attackers were subdued by responding officers through the use of Oleoresin Capsicum spray, and were assigned to the Secure Housing Unit to serve out a disciplinary term. The motive behind the assault remains unknown.
              • November 12
An inmate in Housing Unit 1, Department A, ran out of the shower room while screaming. The inmate had been beaten up in the shower room by other inmates also taking a shower. The inmate then ran back into the shower room. Correctional staff responded by using CS gas to control the fight. The inmates left the shower room after being given verbal orders. All inmates were checked, and the guilty inmates were segregated.

                November 16
A fight erupts in Housing Unit 1, Department A. Inmates around the fight refuse to follow verbal orders given to them and are subsequently taken down with force. The unit got put on lockdown and all inmates returned to their cells. CS gas and less-lethal launchers were used to take control. One inmate died as a result of the fight, the inmates responsible were investigated and segregated.

                    • Welcome to the monthly CompStat for November 2018. The CompStat system was first adopted in law enforcement use by the NYPD in 1994. Its purpose was to track down crime, pinpoint it, and thus be able to methodically and accurately root out violent crime in the city. Since then, CompStat has expanded to differing purposes and different departments throughout America. The SADCR tracks the following occurrences to target improvement of the allocation of the department's resources:
                      • —Staffing (Increases/decreases in employment levels)
—Contraband (Amount of contraband confiscated on facility grounds)

The overwhelming majority of the time, inmates are caught with their crimes. ))
